The more expensive they make travelling by car, the more I'll do it.

Keeps the peasants off the roads you see.

LOL - Thats absolutely fair enough DP, as long as you're willing to pay for it.

"Really? absolutely no other way? Well if thats the case then you've just got to pay"

To be fair I can get in by other means. It's just incredibly difficult. I wasn't trying to imply that a medical condition should somehow exempt me, just that that is the only reason I go through the zone (as it happens there is a system in place which allows the CC to be claimed back under these circumstances but I don't bother.)

"Errmmm is it not a sliding scale based on carbon emissions?"

It seemed to be "fudged" towards specific classes of vehicles. If that view is misguided (as seems likely) then it is not excessively targetted.

You are largely right about pricing. It's just a shame that in so many tplaces there isn't an option.

Absolutely not - why should we? Its precisely this sort of technology that will be demand driven (no pun intended) with the sort of charges that Ken is introducing.

So why does London need a congestion charge? There is already a polution charge at the pumps! Some of the higher poluters compared against people carried are performance motor cycles and they are exempt the charge!

The congestion charge is a cynical abuse of power to screw money out of people who have to drive. If it were anything other then there would be a traffic exclusion zone.

I think we should have a congestion charge tax. A tax levied on congestion charges. And a congestion levy. And then a congestion duty on top.

                  Thanks,

                  Gordon.

No there isn't. Not as far as I know. There is no directive that revenue generated for the government from tax on fuel is directly channeled into reducing pollution. As far as I know.

Nonsense. It is an initiative to try and reduce unneccessary road trips in one of the most congested cities in the world.

If they really wanted to stop cars entering London, just make every driver submit a 42 page form at least 3 months prior to arrival.
