From memory, brewing including wine and cider is legal but distilling illegal. Also quite dangerous but freeze distilling may be worth looking at.

So, I am aware water distillers on eBay are being marketed as alcohol distillers, but is it safe?

For instance, if inkyhole boils at 70 degrees, then in theory what ends up in the distillation jar would be neat alcohol, ie deadly. So how do you end up with 40% ish lovely lovely brandy?

My question is put to the panel.

Suity, a friend of mine who used to make his own wine would freeze it when he had a 'bad batch', thus removing a lot of the water and ending up with some strange liquid that tasted a bit like undiluted cordial and caused temporary brain damage if you drank any more than a couple of small glasses. Give that a try first
