OK I might not quite "get" all the ins and outs of contracting and yes I may be struggling to get this idea that I am "running a business" like you all like to say you are doing but I am NOT a troll.

I hoped this forum would be a sounding board where some of us who are newer to this game might be able to get advice and mentoring from older hands but it seems that it unless you are "in the in crowd" you might as well pack up and go home as any questioner is either a bedwetter or a troll.

So label me a troll and ban me if you wish, I will simply find another forum, there is not exactly a shortage of them you know.

Don't let some of them get you down mate. If you're new to contracting, a question is only an easy one if you know the answer.

Keep asking, you'll quickly learn who are the ones to take the easy option first and the ones who'll answer the question.

However, this is general, and the tone, from the getgo, is adversarial.

I presume you could join a union as you're an employee but first your employer, your company, would have to recognise the union. Once you have joined then you can go on strike for better pay and conditions. In other words, unemploy yourself...

The PCS used to leave little leaflets on my desk at one gig with "get rid of all contractors" written on them.

          I never took it personally.

Have you raised it with you line manager, maybe during your anal review?

              Oh the irony

EDIT: you changed your post totally, my comment still stands.

Then think about what you're asking.

You're a contractor now and (supposedly) a business man. You are NOT an employee of an employer who is there to take advantage of you. You negotiate contracts with clients (who may be agencies).

You may want to join a group where like-minded business men meet, be that a local commerce group or the PCG.
