There are lots of black people living in smaller towns, where they have a lower crime rate than other groups. Same here in NL. I have a feeling that some groups of people are culturally better adapted to small town or rural life and that they're perhaps a bit lost in a city.
The ones that are living in the smaller towns are the ones that have made it. They are not the drug dealers.

Or maybe drug dealers know that the market for what they sell isn't quite as big or lucrative in the smaller towns

Not sure if that was sarcasm! Ex-pats hardly have a great reputation around the world

I'd tell you what I did to a guy who raped a friend of a friend once - and got away with as she wouldn't press charges in case he got deported. But I'd be incriminating myself. I do feel guilty sometimes - but then I remember the emotional scars he's left her. And no I'm not a racist, my OH is African!

Silly bint -you'd think she'd want him out of the country pronto in case he did it to another woman. You sure it was rape?
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

A jury would have to decide that, but in my definition, being held by the throat against a wall, and told to keep quiet or he'd make her stay in the UK very unpleasant as he knew lots of bad people, yes. She didn't want to press charges as he was over here supporting his family back home. If he got deported then they would be destitute.

Whilst what I did wasn't particularly upstanding or a good way to behave - it made him realise that sometime people do feel a moral obligation to protect other people, despite the risk to their personal safety/professional reputation - and he rang her very worried that I was going to still be after him. Hopefully next time he's in a situation where he thinks he has the upper hand over a woman, he'll be thinking of what happened before and decide to walk away.

I wouldn't do it again though. Just a severe talking to!

                How about this chap?
BBC News - Fijian-born soldier Isimeli Baleiwai fights to stay in UK

A Fijian man who served in the British Army for 13 years is fighting to stay in the UK after being told he must leave the country by 9 August.

Isimeli Baleiwai served in Afghanistan and Iraq, before leaving the Army in June. He is married to a UK national.

But disciplinary action for a 2010 fight with a colleague means he is considered to have a criminal record.
