based on 2010/11 stats:

Population of England = 55,240,000
Number of recorded racist incidents = 48,402 or 9.34% per capita

Population of Scotland = 5,222,000
Number of recorded racist incidents = 4907 or 9.40% per capita

All of which would suggest pretty equal intolerance

However when you consider the size of ethnic populations in both countries:

England = 12.5% or 6,476250 which generated 48,402 complaints

Scotland= 2% or 104,440 which generated 4907 complaints

Thus in Scotland with a smaller number of non whites, these were subjected to more racist abuse by the indigenous white population

caveat is that figures recorded relate to racism being directed by white on non white

How many high profile sports can you name where such behavior would be acceptable?

Racist or not Terry should have been fired same day - and never get a job again in high profile sports. Same goes for A Ferdinand who appears to have provoked him.

Maybe the FA will do the right thing and ban both for life...

I assume you know very little about sport because you have never played it. Correct?

Swearing isn't nice, but it happens in highly competitive situations. It is well known in football and cricket, but it would probably surprise you to know that golfers swear, as do polo players, rugger buggers, jockeys, in fact nearly every sport where a participant has the breath or time to to so.

And it helps. If you don't understand that, then you seriously know nothing about sport.

Never mind the psychological impact on your opponent (which may or may not work), it helps you perform better, and recently there were experiments to test the effect on physical performance. Two groups were asked to put their hand in a bucket of ice-cold water to see how long they could stand it for. One group were told to remain silent, the other could swear and use profanities. The second group lasted twice as long in the bucket.

It's one thing to say TULIP when you missed, but totally another to address verbal abuse towards your opponent, that's a no-no and should be dealt with extreme prejudice.

If they really can't handle it then they should try to do it in some weird foreign language like Chinese or French - at least it would sound nice.
