    Here in NL there is still mortgage interest tax relief; one political party, the VVD, which prides itself on saying reasonably sensible things about economics before elections and then doing utterly stupid things when they get into power, has defended this measure for years and is finally starting to budge but still hasn't grasped the enormity of the problem. I think it's not enough to get rid of MIRA; if any fiscal stimulus will help, it would be a larger tax incentive for paying off existing debts than any incentive for taking on debts.

                      I always thought NL was the pinnacle of financial probity like the GErmans. that's what our press will have us believe anyway.
