I guess that's the difference between people who feel the need to dominate others, and those who're confident enough in themselves not to have to. If you did tell me your opinion about owning cats and I happened to disagree with it, I wouldn't take it as personal criticism or feel the need to respond aggressively towards you to make myself feel better. Anyway, good luck with showing your lucky puppy who is "top dog"; hopefully it'll soak up some of that overt aggression you mistake for confidence and allow you to relate to people better. -
Must try harder, Diver.Originally posted by Diver View PostDomestic Dogs = Eating, Barking, whining leg humping peeing, defecating machines that should be wiped from the face of the earth.

People who own the above really need to learn to associate with others or have a child rather than waste their attentions and money on the above sad substitutes for human affection.
and the no-necked tatoo'd feckwits who own vicious rottweilers, dobermanns, pit bulls etc. as status symbols should also be wiped from the face of the earth.
Nuff said
I hope the above doesn't upset anyone

Personally I dont see any aggression in either my post or its. But obviously telling someone they dont know anything about a subject must be seen as being aggressive rather than just a statement of fact.Originally posted by Old Hack View PostSo you're telling him off for being aggresive, by erm, being aggresive?

The convo seemed to go like this, someone who has never owned a dog suggested they would be happy with an older dog as they need love to. I said id be concerned about a big tough dog not knowing its correct place, which isnt above the owner. Then somehow we managed to jump to be this being a political standpoint of domination, psychology and socialism. Id visit a psychologist if I were you to look into your transference.
Watch Cesar Millan in the Dog Whisperer. To quote the wiki "The program demonstrates Cesar Millan's application of his philosophy that healthy, balanced dogs require strong 'pack leadership' from their owners, specifically in the form of exercise, discipline and affection (in that order),[10] with Millan demonstrating how owners can achieve and maintain a leadership role with their dogs."
Exactly 100% correct.Comment

Maybe I should have said s/he was insulting, which I believe is fairly aggressive, given what you actually posted, and how s/he replied.Comment

The dog however is a pack animal and will not be thinking like that. If you don't show them you are the boss they will assume they are.Originally posted by Gentile View PostFor me it's a mismatch of concepts to even think about social politics in relation to a cat or a dog; for me they're simply a pet, not a peer. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. Don't you get just a little tired of it after a while? Life's too short, and I assure I've too much respect for myself and other people to get sucked into pointless arguments with personality challenged strangers on the internet. Perhaps you'll come to the same conclusion about the best use of your time in due course?

Absolutely right, but many dog owners interpret this as needing to totally dominate their dogs. They also forget that as well as Alpha male and female, there is also the status of "enforcer". Which is where the dog should be - it does what the alphas tell it to do."The program demonstrates Cesar Millan's application of his philosophy that healthy, balanced dogs require strong 'pack leadership' from their owners, specifically in the form of exercise, discipline and affection (in that order),[10] with Millan demonstrating how owners can achieve and maintain a leadership role with their dogs."
With dogs like GSDs, they need to have a job to do as well. It's no use just owning a big intelligent breed dog and then not doing anything with it. You have to work with and train your dog continually. If you want a bone idle thing, don't get a dog that has been bred to work.Comment

Judging by your posts, a fooking female chihuahua would rightly think they were top dog compared to you, loser.Originally posted by escapeUK View PostId be worried about a german shepherd thinking he was top dog rather than me if I hadnt brought him up.
