Do you work in IT at RBS? Or at the next place to get hit ...? ? The Register

So I’m sticking my neck out and saying that during this week something else bad will happen. I put that at about 80 per cent during this week, with about a 40 to 50 per cent chance that the consequences will leak out of RBS, making the chances about one-in-three that customers suffer more pain.

That’s not enough for me to say that you shouldn't use RBS for any banking, but if it’s a transaction you care about, best do it somewhere else. ®
Nothing like a testable prediction. Let's see; we'll give him the benefit of the doubt over what he means by this week. Next week will do.

It would be funny if outsourcing were the cause of the demise of a major bank. Unchecked capitalism kills itself, after first sucking on the socialist teat.

It best not to care, keep your skills current and marketable and just avoid these confrontations if possible. Defend yourself reasonably with facts if attacked and make sure that many people hear your defence.

I've been lied to, disrespected, I've been lied about and my reputation tarnished so many times by IT managers in Investment banks that I've lost count; they won't help you in your career so why bother killing yourself for their benefit.

Just go in do your best and invoice, don't become a slave or a nervous wreck on account of them or things in the workplace that are beyond your control.

The way I see an IB environment, it's like a giant spinning disk that people are running on. At the centre is a big pot of gold that everybody is trying to get closer to. The speed of the disk means that the ones near the edge of the disk are in constant danger of going flying off into the void, even if they're not pushed by the ones who are further in.

On the outside track, you've got the IT folk, then closer to the inside, the traders, then the managers, then the directors, etc.

I see what you mean. If you run towards the pot of gold at the centre you are going to be shunted off by the Coriolis force, as you would by a centrifugal force if you stopped running. Running in the opposite direction at same speed as the disk allows one to stay still without feeling any force, or getting nearer the pot of gold. But run a little faster in what appears to be a retrograde motion to your peers, which you will bump into, and you will feel a force pushing you towards the gold and the nearer you get to the pot the slower you need run.

Sounds like you have a good deal of experience in IBs. That paragraph alone should convince any hiring manager.

Me, I understand the dynamics of the Bench a lot better.
