    Mr P is a bit of a horder - i don't ask if he wants to keep stuff any more, if he's not looked at it for 2 years - he wont miss it. So it gets chucked out.
    He is getting better though, he did voluntarily remove his VHS Dr Who collection from the hall shelves recently.
    And no - we don't have a VHS player, but he may not have realised that yet

            Not sure if it's high enough to make dormer windows practical - I think even at it's highest point it is too low.
            I can't believe anyone would be emotionally attached to a load of old Windows manuals, or any dead wood computer books come to that.

            If carpy old books and manuals are taking up loads of room, I can send him 200,000 computing ebooks and training courses on a handful of bluray disks.

            What about all your clothes and shoes though?

              But thats the point: if you don't claim it is an extra room, you don't need building regs, just part P if you have a new leccy board fitted. You also don't need to lose a room to get stairs in. As Building regs aren't needed, you can access it via a pull down ladder.

              Dormers can go in, as long as they are x away from the centreline, X away from gutterline and x below roof height. We had an architect plan several ways to maximise a bunglow within current laws, that included doing the 50 sm m extension not needing planning.

              There are plenty of ways to get around it, but they're all compromises.

                My wife is like this.

                She didn't like some of my shirts. One day, I wanted to wear a particularly obnoxious one, when I couldn't find it, she said she threw it out 8 months previously, and if I hadn't noticed by now, I didn't really like it, as much as she really hated it.

                Can't argue with womens logic...

                  How about digging downwards? If you're careful not to undermine the house's foundations, you could have a huge cellar. Very handy for storing home brew, or DIY etc (and a handy bomb shelter if things ever get really fraught).

                      I'm seriously considering throwing out my Uniface manuals, oh and also that Vauxhall Viva maintenance manual....oh hmm what about that DOS floppy disc.

                      Difficult decision though.
