You've contradicted yourself. Patriotism is an act of blind faith. Loving a country whilst it's great and then changing your mind when it's not so great is not patriotism. That at least involves some kind of intelligent judgement, and intelligence plays no part in patriotism.

Russians are particularly patriotic when they live abroad... you would not believe how much easier it is to love your country whilst being in a different nicer place.
