The worst that will happen is desktops just carry on shipping with W7.
If MS can grab some tablet & phone market-share they will be happy, this is all they are after.

Bought a touchscreen monitor for the kids last year, not much more expensive than a standard monitor. Pleasantly surprised by how well W7 handled it. Quite neat as a second monitor too. A lot of all-in-ones in the shops these days, win 8 should be quite good for that market.

Only problem is the tendency for the little ones to assume every screen is a touchscreen.
      Keeping calm. Keeping invoicing.

For the minority with touch-screen PCs, I imagine W8 will genuinely be bloody great.

You have to wonder if they've lost their way without Gates. It's yet to be seen how much Apple lose their way without Jobs.

Windows 7 will turn out to be the new XP. It'll be the OS that'll stick around for 10 years, and why wouldn't it? It's hard to see how it could be improved on as a desktop OS.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

OSX Lion is 100 times better, full screen mode and spaces along with the touch pad kills Windows 7.

Unless Lion is a massive improvement on Snow Leopard that's not the case. And I heard a few things about Lion that made me uneasy to upgrade.

Not to mention the worry about what Apple will do when they run out of Lions and Leopards to use as name

I can't really imagine OSX Spatchcock

Windows 7 always runs in full screen mode. And what are "spaces along with the touch pad"?
