I rarely take mine anywhere, to be honest, and only got it as the wife was complaining she couldn't get hold of me anytime she needed to. I ask her soemtimes what did she do before we had mobiles, and I think she'd forgotten we had a pre mobiles life.

My brother got the arse once with me, as we'd arrange to meet up at Pub A. He went to pub B, and couldn't, obviously contact me. Around 5 hours later he stumbled past me having a drink in the beer garden at Pub A. Got all mardy saying if I had a phone he'd have not got drunk on his own. I felt peurile for pointing out if he got the pub right in the first place, we'd not be having the discussion.

Genuinely feel like going off the grid for a few years. Thinking if I get benched, I may troop off and grow my own drugs food

I got a lot of hassle to get a car phone back in pre-mobile days, from folks who obviously spent a lot of time commuting.

Just because they spent half their life in a car didn't mean I did.

I use the useful features without 'checking in' every 5 minutes, I'm always searching google maps for local food outlets and bars close to my location, email on the move is also a godsend, latitude was also useful for locating a mate on as a piss up a few weeks ago.

Had an iPhone 3GS then went to an S2 and just couldn't fault it, and still can't. Not enough of a leap to shell out for an S3 so I'm hanging on for the next iPhone personally. Google Store is still waaaaaay behind the App Store for my money too.

Your amended comment made me smile, but is not true.
I have a 'SIM Orly' contract. This lasts for 6 months, then I renew another 6 months, if I choose. I bought the HTC One X sim free, just as I did over 2 years with the HTC Desire that my new phone replaced.
I don't like being locked into lengthy contracts.

I have a 5 year old nokia, which works well and I throw it anywhere.

I don't get Smart phones. Not too sure they could add anything to my life.

I had drinks with some friends the other day, and the ones with smart phones, were always checking facebook, email, news, etc, and the ones who hadn't brought a phone had a cracking time.

I don't use the phone part and avoid a contract. WiFi is handy though.

It's handy having a radio, media player, games player, mini computer (word processor, etc), email, internet, GPS, compass, camera, etc in your pocket.

The next Apple Worldwide Developer Conference is next week so it could be announced then, although the rumours at the moment are more about a refresh of the whole Mac line and possible first look at iOS6. It might be the "one more thing" though since the new phone usually coincides with the next version of the OS.
