If you want decent close up photos, then you need to either have a compact with a decent macro mode, or an SLR where you can get a decent macro lens for it.
And if necessary, get a light box as well to help take better shots.Comment

We bought an entry level DSLR last year for £350 - Pentax kx. Awesome camera and great photos - downside...bulky to carry around. Would recommend though.______________________

If it is for a website or even for pleasure then always use an SLR.
There is no lens quality comparison at all.
Get a entry level Nikon/Canon SLR and the pics will be great.
