Pensions were introduced at a rate of 1-5 shillings a week (5p to 25p) for people over seventy who had an income of less than 12 shillings (60p) a week. The Bill was opposed by some Tories (Churchill was a Liberal at the time). In fact Churchill had only recently been appointed President of the Board Of Trade - so aside from his being in the Cabinet, Pensions weren't really his idea or "baby" anyway.Originally posted by zeitghostWinston Churchill.

Maybe I'm just soft, but I do feel sorry for her. Not saying she doesn't deserve the sentence, but from what's been said in the papers it sounds like she was bullied into going along with the plan, and probably had no real influence over idiot husband's actions. Years of psychological abuse leaving her feeling like her opinion counted for nothing.Originally posted by vetran View PostComment

There comes a point where even though the intention was never to take life the actions were so reckless and so clearly life endangering that they should be considered murder.
