IT consultant for a agency , so they're now a glorified salesman with no sales experience
Worst of all they've already started their sales pitch on me, and trying to get me to explain what all these weird stuff like C# (or C squiggle as he first called it), and what's an agile is it a programming language

Don't you hate it when people you know become the enemy grrrr, and worse I know an agent

    The horror, the horror
Are you suggesting agencies should hire developers as sales-people? Sounds utterly soul-destroying for the developer, not to mention bad for the agency when you get some socially awkward person manning the phones

Talking crap and having social skills are orthogonal. Being a nerd and having social skills are not

They won't last. I know a few people who've had a go at working for recruiters. All have said it's the worst job they've ever had. Utterly soul destroying.

I think it's character forming for young people to have had at least one soul destroying, demeaning and entry level job. It motivates some of them to want to climb their way out of the gutter (although others find they are quite suited to the gutter).

Sadly, that is the mindset our warped society loves to promote.

Like having Groundhog Day in Glengarry Glen Ross I presume

And that sort of high pressure sales environment just seems to dehumanise most agents

Some agencies actually do employ people with at least a basic knowledge of the industry they're selling into, and it's absurd that they seem the minority

Don't you hate dealing with people who want to leech of your skills and try to market you who have no more knowledge of your work than your friends IT illiterate elderly relatives ?

When you're dealing with people who sound like they've come straight from being a saleman for Comet or a double glazing company etc it's pretty tiresome

But on the other hand do you believe any decent developer (or worked in any field) would be happy working in a recruiter?

That sounds more like headhunting - the real kind not CV parsing - to me.

The old man used to be a decent developer back in the day, and he's always very happy working in a recruiter.
