It's interesting how many of the small details are common to both films. The maid being asked to put her vest on, the steward having a go at people for damaging the line's property, that bloke slipping into the lifeboat unnoticed.

There must have been hundreds of stories but perhaps only a few people made their stories public.

Most of those stories are from that book I mentioned, A Night to Remember, by Walter Lord, published in 1957.

He scoured newspaper articles from the time, and interviewed dozens of survivors. It's a really excellent book.

Just saw on the news that there's a cruise ship leaving Southampton this weekend to retrace Titanic's route.

Hopefully they'll miss out the final bit

I know I said this before but it's well odd that both the Captains of the two other ships in the disaster (Californian and Carpathia) were from my home town of Bolton;

Whs, it's been wall-to-wall Titanic fest for the past week or so it seems. Some of them debunking a lot of popular myths shown in the other ones.

I'd like to see one that critically examined all the mistakes made from the steel to the binoculars, ignoring ice warnings, the steering, the bulk heads, the life boats and the amazing disappearing Captain Smith, etc. In one version I've seen and now forgotten the whole thing was presented as a catalogue of disasters.

MS Balmoral has left Southampton docks, retracing the route of the ill-fated cruise liner's maiden voyage.

The ship, carrying 1,309 passengers - the same number as were on the Titanic...

Watching summert from TPB from Disc channel, recent stuff, seems very American, you know 'She was on her Maiden Voyage, she was unsinkable, yet on that very.....'

Hope it's not the same guff, let's send Time Team down there...
