Now I know where I have been going wrong.

When I put my CV in for work as a nuclear/decommissioning technical documentation engineer, what I SHOULD have done was say I had worked sweeping the floor at Tesco.

I'll upload my new CV on Jobsite first thing tomorrow.

That's because you aren't thinking it through.

The lazy benefit scroungers know how not to go on government schemes. They have been doing that while the economy was booming.

This scheme targets the ones who would take a job if it was advertised with a wage.

        WaTw said.

2 weeks to a month should be the maximum free. The Jobseeker should receive the equivalent of the relevant pay after a month (combination of benefits and employer contributions). If they stay past a few months there should be a job offer. Possibly a fixed term contract would be acceptable.

I'm all for people doing 2 - 4 weeks work experience after long term unemployment. to prove they still have it to prospective employers. (i.e. they get out of bed, turn up on time, are competent and treat customers courteously) But 6 months free labour is taking the mick.

otherwise its free labour. As if they can't get it cheap enough.

KC -Dont forget to include two months over Christmas as the backend of a pantomime horse, provided Wim will back you up with references.

Most employers want someone to start on monday doing a similar job to that which they were doing on friday.

Nowt wrong with working at Tesco, in fact it would come in very handy right now.

But it wouldn't go on my CV, it would be totally irrelevant to my 'usual' employers, in fact it would be a CV stain, like a few other jobs I've done in between.

Then perhaps we should start charging picky ones extra.

And likewise, you are all IT professionals.

Just bring up your CV, and read it as though you are a Tesco Branch Manager looking for a general-duty shop worker.

                  Would you interview yourself?

How long do you think that you would stay at Tesco's if a job in your own field came up??

You wouldn't even say 'goodbye' would you, never mind giving notice.

Its a scheme for long term unemployed / unskilled.

I had some questions about some of my jobs in interviews. I pointed out it I was better working and some turned their nose up, others said if he is willing to clean loos and wait on tables through college, fix PC's on bench time etc then that means he isn't stuck up.

But they knew I turned up & did some work. Now apply that to someone who hasn't worked for 12 months? If it isn't their fault and they want to work, a good report on a recent work experience project may help.

I am sure that lots of people will take very low pay, maybe even pay for the priviledge of working, just for the chance of soemthing coming out of it, but the idea of putting it on your CV to 'pad it out' is crazy.

look at me, i'll work for nothing me.
