Why do you have to deal with Hippo's work?

Just tell the clientco rep you won't have any involvement with it (as a condition for extending for even a month).

If I don't do Hippo's work he will cry like a baby and tell our boss.

As all contractors know, if you don't do what you're told, then be prepared for the consequences of one's actions, either no contract renewal or being fired ASAP.

13 day remaining and I'm still pondering whether to leave or work the extra one month to train my replacement.

The clue is in "train your replacement". Unless you need the money leaving them with no trained replacement would serve them right.
