A rate rise was needed a couple of years ago - but not to 15%. Even 1% would have done the trick. But BoE is run by a clueless idiot with no experience of the real world.

Now it just needs QE reining in a bit until inflation gets under 3% which is likely this year.

I've been making the most of the low interest rates and overpaying on my mortagage seeing as it's my largest overhead and the only real savings I have now are those to tide me over should I have anytime off between contracts otherwise I'd see saving as a futile exercise.

Do you think your 'average joe' who's struggling to survive during a period of high inflation on a stagnant wage could cope with a rate rise right now?
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

I'd say it would depend on how big the increase is

Well if you want people to pay down personal debt you need to give them the conditions to do so.
