5-bed detached (self-build) near Tunbridge Wells. Mortgage, no contract for two and a half years and a litigous neighbour from Hell, so I can't even sell up and move.
How much is to do with my contractor rate - none actually
We bought it prior to me contracting when I was a 36K permie and my other half was an 80K permie - we based the mortgage (176K) on his salary alone to give us some breathign space
What my contractor rate now enables (in addition to his 80K permie salary thereby having some degree of security against the contracting market) is for me to :
1. Pay a gardner for two days a week in summer and one in winter to keep the land under control
2. Pay a cleaner to clean the hosue one day a week
3. Not have to worry about us botching DIY - we pay a man who can
By the time this contract finishes, xmas for the shop and I have sold my last BTL in Brighton I will have paid off my mortgage on my house which is presently £160k plus have £50k in the bank.
Wasn't getting at anything. Simply husbands are usually the highest earners, so I wanted to know whether the property was thanks to contracting or something else; innocent question.
