So, on his watch, RBS cost the UK taxpayer £45,500.000.000.

He loses his Knighthood, but keeps his pension?...so far at least.

He must be laughing all the way to the airport.

Where is my UK gilt for 1200 quid then?

Isn't Her Maj meant to be above politics? Which this obviously is. I can understand a knighthood being taken away from somebody who commits a crime, but awarding somebody a high honour and then taking it away a couple of years later just because bashing what they represent has become trendy doesn't seem right.

      Just saying.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

A point. But in many cases honours are politically-driven in the first place.

For example, they used to strip the Victoria Cross from criminals, but the King expressed the opinion that subsequent behaviour did not change history, and the 'VC' should be allowed to wear his medal on the gallows if later convicted of murder.

Fred the Shred's knighthood has later been shown to have been unmerited in the first place, and his continued holding of it brings both the honours system, and (although I hate to say it, as you know) the political party that awarded it into disrepute.

In that case, I reckon Fred should also be entitled to be called "Sir" right up to the point he reaches the top step of the gallows too.

            It is only fair.

OK, but the only reason that I don't agree with the death penalty is that you will never be able to get other 'western' countries to extradite murderers back to the UK.

I don't want him dead, but I want him reduced to poverty, and when he goes to an ATM and presses 'display balance' it should say minus £45,500.000.000.

WTF would we want them back? We have more than enough anyway.
Reason enough to reintroduce it some might argue.

I agree...I would pull the lever myself and enjoy doing it.

But you would never get any country with a 'western' legal system to extradite them.

He won his knighthood for services to banking
And he lost it for his disservices to banking.

If an accountant commits a fraud and gets away with it for five years he can be brought to book and struck off/prosecuted ten years later so why not Fred Goodwin be stripped of his knighthood?
