I think it works based on the rep of the rep-giver. For example a lowly recent entrant with no real rep when giving rep, counts very little. However being given rep by a super-poster with mega-rep will inflate your rep enormously.

My rep is s/th like 2290 +ve, recently damaged by Incognito who called me a 'Cock' cos I don't like Mrs Thatcher...

The trick (apparently) is that you need to have some sockies who already have some rep. Rep from someone who has no influence is worthless. Rep from someone with rep is worth more.

Mods should ban not just sockie but also everybody who gave positive rep to it, and possible one level further down the line.

Rep wars have just become a tad harder to win.

I admit she has some use, such as when I'm giving the current mrs stek and good seeing-to, and she's not quite ready to receive my load and I have to keep the wolf from the door so to speak, I think of Mrs Thatcher pole-dancing, and I'm good for another two minutes at least....
