You should be able to change gear less in a diesel as you have a wide band of torque available.

A wide band of torque from 500 rpm to 2000 rpm and no torque either side, which means plenty of gear changes away from the motorway. You never been in a taxi around town?

With a Diesel Particulate Filter, a Dual Mass Flywheel and a manual box - I doubt it - you should have gone for the auto
