Dodgy, do really think calling people "hypocritcal scum" paints you in a good light? I assume you pretend not to care.

I don't accept your analysis, but I'm not sure it's worth arguing the point when the best you can do is offer insulting sobriquets.

Financial and insurance services, as a % of GDP, are worth slightly less than the motor trade. Should we let the more unscrupulous used car dealers sell cut and shuts and doctor the mileage on used cars because they represent such a huge chunk of our GDP?
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Ok - let's see your working for that bonus points for NI and employers NI, unless of course that's only for the "little people".

            £20,000 a year = £1532 Employers NI, £2504 NI, £1784 Inc Tax = £5820 x 50,000 = £291,000,000

            £1,000,000 a year = £137,024 Employers NI, £23,381 NI, £478,000 Inc Tax = £638,405 x 1,000 = £638,405,000

(these are going on perfect world examples with a tax code of 747L)

I think a more appropriate analogy would be to allow car dealers to sell each other worthless bundled investment products based on things that may or may not happen to cars they do or don't own, whilst selling the public "investments" on which they (the dealers) will profit massively if the public lose. The old fashioned cut and shut dealers relied on actual work (albeit dodgy work).

I agree with Dodgy. Contractors are not really in the position to 'hand wring' and point the finger at anybody.

You know what they say about assumptions!

Well, that's more polite than Dodgy at least, and I think his contention was actually that I should be in some way grateful. My point on this thread wasn't hand-wringing or pointing at anyone - just that it was a surprise what a small proportion of GDP the City is considering how much we're all supposed to sacrifice on its altar.
