Learning Russian

Mrs Chico studied russian at uni - bloody hard. She got to go there for a few months and was in the same year as Jeremy Spake (fat bearded bloke BBC1's airport.) She tells a story of she how was stranded in St Petersburg with some of her classmates with no money - Jeremy was a true gentleman and bought food for everyone.

edit: Mrs Chico has almost forgotten Russian as she has not used it since graduation

I would advise against learning Russian - it is believed to addle the brain. You don't need to look far to find proof of that either

on the other hand fiddle it could aid you in buying a big rich london football club spending lots of money on a big team and getting knocked out of the champions league by a bunch of scousers that according to Numpty didn't really deserve to be there.

There's some in Wimbledon at the moment, they may be a little expensive, but you could always claim it back on expenses

Sunnysan, a serious answer for you; the Russian alphabet actually makes the language easier, as it's phonetic and the sounds are always the same (unlike English). Getting used to the new alphabet isn't difficult.
Being a European language, a lot of the words are familar and instantly recognisable.

The real difficulty with Russian is the grammar; the cases are an absolute nightmare. However, Russian isn't an exceptionally difficult language (unlike Hungarian -trust me!) but it certainly isn't easy. With a decent brain, a good ear and lots of patience, there's no reason why you can't become fluent.

P.S. Don't ask Franco for help. I think he was taught Russian by the Eskimos.
