Nuclear power, you know it makes sense. Cheap, efficient, safe, proven tech.

All this renewables crap just costs money, needs to be subsidised and has questionable efficiency.

            Use less ?

            USE LESS.

Brilliant. absolutely brilliant. The brilliant advice from pjclarke, to all those oldies(and others) who will be freezing this year, because they cant afford their lekkie bills, is to use less.

(So, we will put the bills up, in order to reduce CO2, Which MIGHT put the temperature of the planet up by a few thousandths of a degree by 2100, and in the process we will blight the landscape and put prices up. But if it gets too dear, just use less)

these guy are not just fanatical, they are criminal

There are no altrusitic companies, There are no altrusitic power companies. Companies only exist to maximimise returns to shareholders.

They don't give a tulip about wee Mrs Smith freezing to death because she has to choose between heating or food this winter. Ah but wait, they're saving the planet with renewables and all that carbon crap.

Yes - I do work in the power industry and have direct experience of power stations and electricity costs and factors.

Windmills only make money for the generators because of subsidies. We do need a lot of standby generation capacity, not just for wind but all current generation. Wind cannot be used for this, it is very hard for the grid to balance the input from windfarms, but technology will improve this, it has to or we will have thousands of great white elephants.

Currently the only quick reacting renewable power source is hydro, or small biomass plants.

Renewables are not a rip off but they are still not at practical levels at the moment.

I have earn't my living from dirty coal fired power stations so I could be seen to be biased.

I dont think you are saying anything that most of dont already know. The only debate is about the amount of subsidy at the moment, and whether there is any future in the wind technology

Herein lies the truth, brother, despite what the behemoth says.

Many forms of generation need subsidy at some part of their lifetime, nuclear has been around for 50 years yet is not viable without Government underwriting the waste disposal, cleanup and insurance against the next Chernobyl.

UK coal producers received around £162 million of operating aid during 2000-02 and £53 million of investment aid during 2003-08, but the Government are not currently paying any subsidy for coal production.

And of course, only a fraction of the costs of climate change adaptation and mitigation will fall on the generators ....
