The UN and Amnesty International has condemned the action in particular that the travellers have no alternative homes to go to. It is a PR disaster for the government. It is also disaster for the UK because the UK government will be in court for this, they will have to pay compensation and that compensation will come from us the taxpayers.

        I thought they were travellers
Or have I missed the point of what being a traveller is?

If we were French we'd tell the UN to keep their noses out and then we'd blow up the Amnesty HQ!

Professor Yves Cabannes was at Dale Farm in a personal capacity. Stop being disingenuous.

              From UN-Habitat:

The press conference held at Dale Farm is an initiative of individuals of the Advisory Group on Forced Evictions. UN-Habitat is not involved in that event.
The UK will not be liable for any compensation, this has progressed through the courts, the travellers have been offered alternative housing and they have refused.

They have deliberately flouted the laws of this land, the rule of law dictates that law applies to all equally.

What the fook would the UN know? According to Basildon Council the "travellers" have been given a list of legal sites with space available - therefore they have no reason not to fook off from their illegal site. They've had 10 years to find a place, all the time knowing they were in criminal breach of planning law.

Years ago we had the travellers/tinkers/pikeys whatever you want to call them, move in on the road up to my parents.

They were there for a few weeks and everyone was kicking off about them being there. There were about 50 caravans or so, although unlike Dale Farm they hadn't put in walls or concrete structures or anything.

Eventually the council came in with a few bulldozers and started to wall them in, if they wanted to stay then they'd be "fenced" in. They used mounds of rubble and earth and told the travellers, they would only leave space for a car to get through the entrance.

They were out of there quick fast
