    disagree,

using the cars example, there are off the shelf products to suit most need

    people carrier

    4x4

    sports

    etc

    even cross-over

for this stuff, I simply want...

    hard disk recorder for tv

and be able to surf internet from tv

that's not too much to ask of a 1 box solution product off the shelf is it ?

the closest I can see is the htpc and then you moving into trainset territory

    Milan.

I'm sure some tvs let you watch some internet video these days, trouble is going to be support for new stuff i'd guess. Someone must do a box with the same functions. What about sony, lg, panasonic etc?

Actually it seems a lot of blu-ray players etc have basic internet video capability now. Perhaps you should have a look into some of those.

BD-D8900M 3D SMART Blu-ray Player with HDD | Blu Ray Players - SAMSUNG UK (uses the samsung portal)

Sony BDP-S780 review from the experts at whathifi.com (uses sony BRAVIA video)

Panasonic DMP-BDT210 review from the experts at whathifi.com (uses panasonic viera connect)

Obviously check some reviews first and see how good they are though. My guess would be some of these services aren't quite as impressive as they sound, plus of course stuff like iplayer probably isn't going to work overseas so you will want to check out the local equivalents.

As an aside, this beauty is using the same off the shelf case as my one (except mine is black):

Aurora Elite review from the experts at whathifi.com

and this one has a similar spec:

Evolve LifeStation review from the experts at whathifi.com

Perhaps I should consider this as a plan B, my BOM was about £800 all up including the VAT so there is clearly some money to be made, and one could offer a personalised installation service for a fee as well. Obviously I'd have to relocate so that I could put a "made in Germany" sticker on it and charge an extra 30% for a quality product.

                Experts,

a friend recommended one of these:

Panasonic DMR-BW880 review from the experts at whathifi.com

the tv is Panasonic too so it makes some sense

seems to do most things I want

what do the experts say ?

                Milan.
