Takeaway not ready on time... legal recourse?

I find takeaways are just awful for reliability, consistency, and quality. To ensure its on time and warm, I generally go and pick the food up, unless its an arse to get to.

So far I've had food poisoning from a chinese takeaway, moldy nan bread from my local indian place, and cold pizza. The worst thing for me is when an order turns up and is the wrong thing, but only for one person... then you've got another 40 minute wait until they sort out a replacement.

I remember 10 years ago renting a flat in Lancashire opposite a Dominos pizza. Back then they always built in the price of delivery into the cost of a pizza. It cost me a tenner to pick my own pizza up . I tried getting a spotty teenager to walk it across the road for me (frowning that he didn't get to use his company moped), but it turned up late and cold. I hope they've sorted out their price model for self-collect nowadays.

This is because most takeaways aren't very good. Which is why, when you find a good one, you stick with it.

In SW London there are a lot of cowboys but there is also a massive amount of choice, which means there are a few gems. These are the ones I frequent:

Pizza: Piccante - Specialists in Fine Pizza since 2002

Curry: Best takeaway sw17 sw18 sw19 sw20 sw6 sw4 sw11 12 13 Wandsworth

Chinese (pretty good, I'm sure there are better ones though): Far East (0208 788 5895)

Burgers: Phone nearest GBK and pick it up

Noodles: Phone nearest wagamama and pick it up

I have had some truly awful curries and pizzas from other takeaways in the area so I always stick to those two now.

A mate of mine used to live about 2-3 miles out from the centre of town. On his way home from the lash on a friday night, he would usually pop into the chinky to order a delivery.
He would then sit down, and when it was ready, he would accost the taxi driver that was set to deliver it, and, as he was going to the same address, suggest he should just jump in for the ride.
Normally they were reasonably amenable, but if any of them got funny then he told them that there would be nobody there to pay for it if they didn't, so that swung it.
Cheeky fooker I suppose.

When I order take away home delivery I usually go forward in time 40-45 mins to pick it up instantly and go back to the past when I was hungry.

Very little waiting time but might cause a few paradoxes.
