That's really not a good hedge. In 2008 oil prices went to $35 a barrel (or thereabouts). As soon as oil goes below a certain level $65?? oil exploration becomes a waste of time as they are typically exploring really expensive places to dig.

But I thought buying shares in GAME would be a good idea so I know nothing.

Newsnight seem determined to terrify everyone. It's been nothing but doom for two weeks and last night they were talking about politicians being too negative?! Probably all totally justified doom though.

And another thing .... Brian Eno was on Newsnight last night. He's amazing.

Mervyn King is getting in some doomsaying too:

This is the most serious financial crisis we've seen, at least since the 1930s, if not ever.
              Debt crisis: live - Telegraph
              Almost irresistible isn't it.

Looking forward to tonight's Doomsnight, but yesterday's will take some beating.

The Saudi's need $84/barrel to keep their social welfare system going. Demand is outstripping supply and we now have China and India to feed.

But if the West is poverty stricken with debt, who is going to buy all the useless crap from China and piss poor services from India?

Are Indians going to run China's IT systems and the Indians going to fill their homes with Chinese mass produced crap?
