I'd prefer to walk, personally, as I think they're tulip.

If life were all about the cheapest, most reliable things in life, it would be dull and the motor industry would have died years ago, leaving us all in Toyota Corollas. Luckily, it isn't, well, for some people...

Correct. they have advised you of the repair required and you have authorised them to do it when they have striped parts for repair they have then found other issues which again you have authorised so unfortunately you are responsible for the cost

They are not liable for the failure on the test drive, if they had crashed it then yes but mechanical failure could have happened at any time (unless you can prove they were driving irresponsibly)

What you should have done in the first instance was asked them for a price for them to check all the components and give you an estimate of the full cost so you could then decided whether the repair was worth it or not

BMW parts are not expensive, its the labour charges that push the bill up

Ever thought of getting the spanners out and having a go yourself? Head gasket maybe a bit hard if you are starting out, but replacement radiator, expansion tank and the like should be straight forward.

You're on your own there, their cars, especially the cee'd, have been very well received both in the motoring press and the customer surveys

I did a replacement head on my 2.8 Shogun a few years ago & it's not that difficult and quite an enjoyable change from bashing a keyboard & being a 4x4 meant it was easy to work on, but I do wish I'd changed the timing chain & tensioner at the same time.
I don't know how different a Beemer would be -bottom line cost was £1000 and at the time I debated whether to scrap or not, it was done at 135k and the engine is now on 250k and going strong, but if anything major goes I will be scrapping (want a new one)
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Correct. Kia and Hyundai have transformed themselves like Skoda did. Their latest offerings are almost on par with the class best.
Only a stupid moron brainwashed by brand advertising would be unaware of that fact.

thats right, engines are a bit more difficult but the components around are dead easy and the hardest job on that would be filling the system back up, infact BMWs are one of the easier cars to work on cos their german efficiency
