    Okay, here's one I just made up.

    Name a continent beginning and ending in the letter 'A'.

    Was it Asia, Africa, America, Antarctica or Australia?

      MATHS FAIL

      The trick is that whatever number you choose at the beginning, you will always end up with a country beginning with D

        The most interesting bit may be after instruction 4 because any integer (1 to 10) multiplied by 9 and digits are summed will produce 9, so you always get 'd' as the first letter.

        ahhhh

        that's my mistake I added a few more digets to the number

        ok I try again...

        ok still works out the same

          I did think I might be cheating with Deutschland but it was the first thing that popped into my head. Then I switched back to English for dog and grapefruit.

            That's the old 9 times table trick...

            Hold out ten fingers

            ||||||||||

            Tuck in the finger at the position you want to multiply by nine

            e.g. For 3 x 9 tuck in 3rd finger

            ||.|||||||

            2 on the left and 7 on the right

            Now, has anyone got a cheat for the 7 times table?

                There's one here that does not only 7 but, 6,7,8,9,10 on the fingers too, for multiplying integers >=6 and <=10.

                Alternatively, for multiplying by 7, double the number and add half to the tens figure. And add 5 if the original digit was odd.
                so 8 * 7 = 16 + 40 = 56, 7 * 7 = 14 + 30 + 5, 123 * 7 = feck it, you do it.

                  I lost, I couldn't think of a fruit beginning with W.

                  That was from cow. Which came from Dominican Republic (I only thought of that because I work with a ballet dancer from there, Denmark would have been better).
