China has been "ruled" since the qin (pronounced chin) dynasty and the defeat of the six of the feudal warlords of the pre china era. (That war had continued in one form or another from 500 to 213 years BC) However the Chinese have survived for thousands of years on the basis that discussing what's best for every one and giving choice is a crap way to build a civilisation. I think they happen to be right.

I'd say the Chinese will get democracy about the same time as we over throw parliament and restore a monarchy...

I don't know, the West seems to have built quite a good civilisation on the basis of democracy.
One that China is tsill trying to catch up on.
For all the talk about China "overtaking" the US in size of GDP, that's a meaningless statistic since there's a billion of them.
When they overtake the GDP is terms of GDP per person they will have achieved something and no one is saying they'll do that any time soon.
Your average Chinese is still poor by Western standards.
      Hard Brexit now!

The basic cause of this crisis is people in the West (from rednecks in the US to Greek civil servants) living beyond their means for years.

So how do we come out of this 'game' with our warchest intact and still worth at least the same when looking to buy stuff in the UK?

Leave it in the bank as they're still too big to fail?

Move it into other assetts that may or may not appreciate or depreciate rapidly?

Blow it on cola and hookers then live off the state like the millions of parasites devouring the beast? (this includes bankers, they're living on state handouts in the form of QE )

Dunno. Just glad the family has some agricultural land with no mortgages and plenty of cows.

Land does look a good option at the moment, provided one avoids the overpriced land bank speculators.

It's versatile, and can live on it whilst sticking one or more fingers up at the clowns in authority while they're tied up in the court system.

            Is yours called Dale Farm?

As for livestock, I can see protection against rustling becoming a resurgent industry. "You've had the indians, now try the cowboys".

When we have 5000 years of history, I will agree with you but seeing as democracy arrived with the parliamentarians and votes for land owners after a civil war, and that we only started letting the labour force vote at the turn of the last century. Actual, real democracy for all in this country is quite young.

                Option 3

Or constantly think on how you can retain or increase your earning power/survival skills in the world situation that is tomorrow. Maybe in the short term contracting is fine, later learn a foreign language in order to be able to market your skills somewhere else, later learn how to rob people without you getting robbed, later learne how to appreciate the taste of berries, later learn how to appreciate the taste of grass and earth worms.

We don't have 5000 years of history? That's news to me. What happened - were Britons perhaps dropped on these islands by aliens 4000 years ago?

For a people with 5000 years of history the Chinese have done remarkably little, certainly as compared to what the West achieved in the last 300.

They've survived, give them 50 years and they'll be selling Chinese take away on Mars.
