I assume the percentage figure in brackets is an absolute number? Almost 1 in 3 drivers is uninsured in Birmingham B6? wtf.

Could also have something to do with these areas having the highest cost to insure a car. Where I live, which suprisingly isn't on that list, to insure a v reg pug 206, worth £400 with no NCD for a 42 year old driver, the cost up north was over £800. To insure the same car with the same details at the address where it lives down south and the quote dropped to £240

Even with full NCD and no claims or points for my 55 reg Mondeo, the renewal cost was over £600.

The insurance companies claim that they have to put their costs up because of the number of uninsured drivers, but seem to put it up most in the areas where there are most uninsured drivers - while that might seem fair, the much higer cost seems to encourage the practice still further. If you are only earning £15k then stumping up £600 a year is a fair chunk of cash to find.

Also, if the insurance companies actually fought the personal injury claims, so that they were not paying out tens of thousands of pounds for false claims, then perhaps they might be able to lower their premiums.

Another way to reduce the number of uninsured drivers would be to have the courts fine those convicted a realistic amount. In our local paper we have lots of cases where somebody has been convicted for driving without insurance and they get hit with points and a fine of about £200 - to many that's worth the risk. If a years insurance in that area is £600 then their fine shoudl be at least twice this. If they cannot pay, then their car should be sold and their license revoked until they have paid up.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

      I preferred version 1!

Just how many do you think are driving without a license?

        "Got your license, buddy?"

ANPR trawl on a major route should soon trim this down, cars impounded and resold where possible to finance the initiative.

              1. We spell licence with a c in this country. If you need proof - take a look at one.

              2. Uninsured cars are already seized on the very rare occasion they are caught.

              3. I have an ethinic minority mate who freely admits he "shares" insurance with many of his cousins and relations with similar names. He points out that it would be easy to stop if there was better enforcement - and if the police had a few more minority faces, some of the more obvious dodges would be cleared up.

              4. - Gibbon - "I seem to recall they tried that in Bradford a year or two ago, but because the vast majority were from ethnic minorities they got told to stop as it looked like persecution, a bit like the Ann Cryer investigation into Asian sex rings in Keighley."

I seem to recall all sorts of stuff that actually turns out to be arse - do you have any factual references for this or is it just what someone in the pub seemed to recall from the Daily Mail?

              5. Insurance is way too expensive due to bastard lawyers - who are, essentially, the root of all that is evil in our society.

I'm in total agreement with point 5.

Can I receive a Fixed Penalty for driving with no insurance?

Yes. Many Police forces issue a Fixed Penalty Notice of 6 points and £200 fine.

Cost of insurance ~£500+, or more if your insurance has rocketed because you've been caught with no insurance.
