They did this at least once at Barclays in Radbrook 2 years ago and then walked every single contractor not on a managed service 4 months later. We all knew they couldn't survive and would be opening the door to all comers whcih they did 3 months later but on some bloody awful rates. People made do and just jumped ship when they got a better role so they put a no notice in the contract. The rates are getting better now I believe.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostAnybody expecting this to happen at Barclays or seen it happen yet?
Nice to see everyone is standing up for their rights and walking. When Barclays did the 10% I was aware of only 2 people that walked directly because of it. The rest of us took it. We didn't really have time to jump ship before the major cull.
You have to think why they are doing it I think. The 10% happened at Barclays because banking fell on it's arse so jumping ship to another bank wasn't a good idea so we bit the bullet. If one particular company does it and the industry isn't on it's knees then your options are different.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Rate Cut
I got the 10% rate cut info today thankfully it is on next renewal which for me is end of the year and I got a 5% increase last month so will balance itself out a bit.
I figure a 10% reduction is 90% more than the bench so will probably suck it up, though be interesting to see what some of the others do – general anger but the market is pretty quiet at the moment and I hear of a number of hiring freezes.Comment

I would say that in every "no exceptions" "across the board" rate cut, you will find a few individuals that quietly get away with it. They are too important and the threat of them leaving is real and most importantly the people in charge know this.

Isn't it even better to not be important but make the people in charge think you're important?Originally posted by swamp View PostI would say that in every "no exceptions" "across the board" rate cut, you will find a few individuals that quietly get away with it. Happened to me at a large UK telecommunications company in Feb 2009. 12% cut across the board, except for me and 2 others who got 30%!!!! Signed up but walked 2 weeks into the tulip contract when a new role came up.....**** them I say!Originally posted by swamp View PostI would say that in every "no exceptions" "across the board" rate cut, you will find a few individuals that quietly get away with it. It's not the cupboard itself that is going for a wander, but rather its contents.Originally posted by Wobblyheed View PostThe cupboard that never moves ?
Companies that need to make cutbacks will often start with silly small things like controlling access to the stationary cupboard to limit the amount of pens and notebooks people take (home...!) They may save a tiny amount of money, and who knows they may even lose productivity through staff rummaging around for pens and scribbling important notes on the backs of envelopes. It doesn't matter. What we care about is the intent, and the intent in this case is to make cutbacks.Cats are evil.Comment

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong!
