They would probably deem earth to be too fiscally unstable to join the Galactic Club, then there is also the problem of cheap earth labour stealing their androids jobsCoffee's for closers -
When aliens land on earth in films, why do they always land in a farmyard in Bumf**k, Texas where everyone plays the banjo while sitting on the porch chewing straw
When freedom comes along, don't PISH in the water supply.....Comment

While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Allegedly those kind of people are more susceptible to anal probing. Let's ask SASGURU...Originally posted by TestMangler View PostWhen aliens land on earth in films, why do they always land in a farmyard in Bumf**k, Texas where everyone plays the banjo while sitting on the porch chewing straw

How do you make defences against aliens who have the technology that allows them to cross huge distances in the universe? I rather think, hoping that our cold viruses will wipe them out (as per certain films) is a tad optimistic. There again, why is Cameron making defence cuts at this time - is he an alien in disguise?Speaking gibberish on internet talkboards since last Michaelmas. Plus here on TwitterComment

Maybe they're already here but on a different gamma spectrum range to humans and earth lifeforms.
Some people call them ghosts.
To check for aliens, run about doing "whooooooooo" noises and see if you hear any strange scream like noises. If any humans wonder what you're up to just say you're practicing for halloween.Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

War of the Worlds presumably.Originally posted by MrMark View PostI rather think, hoping that our cold viruses will wipe them out (as per certain films) is a tad optimistic.
As it happens, I think the biggest danger with landing on another world probably is from the tiny bugs. We are immune to the vast majority of bacteria/viruses because we did survive and were able to reproduce. Trillions of other variations of life on this planet never survived. We grew up in the this playground, so we know how to survive.
The idea that aliens could be susceptible to our viruses wasn't a recent Hollywood plot line, but a central element to HG Well's book. It's easy to dismiss it as a plot device now - with all that we now know about medicine, but quite a brilliant idea for the 19th century.
Also the "war" in War of the Worlds is not between humans and martians, but between bugs and the martians. Humans are just the bystanders - and don't "see" the war until the bugs have won.Comment

As Hollywood are blatantly out of ideas, most recently evidenced by the decision to do another Blade Runner film, maybe they should do a re-imagining from the bugs point of view.
We missed their victory parade on winning the war against terror from illegal aliens the first time around.Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it
