That's a good habit to get in to.

      Toss up really.

There's an express train 'Leonardo Express' from the airport to the Main Rail Station where you can get the metro or a bus onwards for 14Epp each way. Don't get a taxi, they will rip you off, there's meant to be maximum fares but they ignore it. And don't get a Taxi from the station either, I once got quoted 40E for a 1km trip. Remember to get a 3 day travel card for 11E pp.

You could probably get a Limo service for 80E per car return if you book on the net and do some searching. This is good as it takes you straight to the hotel.

There is a cheaper train but it involves some changing etc.

This is true, but in over trips it has never happened to me.

        Tips:

Don't dress and look like a tourist, i.e. big feck off camera hanging your neck, rucksacks, baseball caps. You will also get less attention from the street vendors/beggars.

On the metro/bus/tram, look round and eyeball everyone, make them aware that you're aware. Get the wife to keep her bag to her front with her hand over the top.

Don't hand your Camera to that friendly Centurion to take your picture at the colosso, he may ask you for 30E to get it back. Ask a Jap instead.

        Watch out for Romany Kids!

Don't be paranoid, just a few simple precautions makes you a less attractive target and they'll hopefully try that fat loaud yank whose being annoying everone.

Brilliant thread, thanks to all who replied - I'm off to Rome for a long weekend in October. Seems like it's the current CUK destination of choice!
...my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...
