I would have thought that you would be in support of stringent checks. One quick visit every 2 years is surely a small price to pay to ensure that the limited pool of money is going to the right people.

My thought's exactly, some people do get better, so regular checks are par of the course and should be expected.

Why is the default view of almost everyone that not working is better than working? Quite apart from cost it is far better for people to work than not to work. The evil that is socialism is that these people think that they are somehow doing people some sort of favour by paying them to not work. OK if for a two or three months as a bit of support, but even picking fruit in fields is better than staying at home doind nothing. I have a cousin who is a qualified lawyer who sits at home and cannot find a job. Why on Earth doesnt he go and learn to drive a bus? As an employer I would far rather employ a professional who has done something rather than nothing. So these do gooding socialists are actually only serving themselves.

Don't worry I know and have met a few GPs socially. They hate certain types of patient as they know what they are up to.

I also overheard one of the receptionists' at my own GP politely telling a patient where to go with sick notes. That receptionist was classic as with any patient who rang up for my GP she would broadcast their reason for ringing over the entire waiting room.

Yep Thatcher encouraged it.

However the next administrations - Majors and Blairs did nothing to amend it.

I have been out the standard working cycle for 6 months working on a plan b, hired an office but was really working on my own when I wanted and how I wanted. (have a couple of sales)

BAck to regular contracting over the last 2 weeks and it is a good feeling to get into the office again. In my mind it must be brutal being out there doing nothing for years with no direction.
