A friend regularly downloads movies via p2p and says they often turn out to be porn. His wife still seems to accept this excuse.

I find usenet a lot easier and more reliable for obtaining US shows not yet out in the UK*, which is all I use it for, mostly. Can find the nzb file and have an episode downloaded in under 10 minutes seeing as the binary providers offer full connection speed downloads.

For movies I prefer quality, so either buy the blu-ray or used DVDs from Amazon. Can get many DVDs for under 2 quid. Some start at 1p though p&p is set at 1.26 so 1.27 is the current minimum price. Also don't want to hog my bandwidth downloading stuff when I can get the postman to do the legwork, and it's probably cheaper than renting.

    * I'd gladly pay a quid per episode if it was proper HD quality and available to download outside the USA. The companies trying to stop pirating are dumb. They could make loads of money by offering content for download worldwide upon release, if they priced it realistically. Instead their short-sightedness means they blame the pirates instead of themselves. The internet is global, all this region locking and phased releasing is way behind the times.
To give another viewpoint, I download a lot of tv shows and films using torrents over the last 4 years and never once had any virus, or randomly get p0rn instead.

But then again I don't use limewire.

I've heard NZB's are pretty good too though.

Obviously I thought I'd start over at Pirate Bay, a small group of lovely Swedish fellas I've heard of who 'ha ha' in the face adversity, copyright and the 1 year jail sentence they all got last year.

I have bugger all idea what I'm downloading which is why I'm running it inside a VM but if it comes off I believe it's the latest Harry Potter movie. Where do I send the payment?
Just write to the makers of Harry Potter and tell them that you are doing free backups for them for 28 days. After 28 days you will charge them for the service.

        Absolutely gutted.

        Voldemort doesn't win!

        He was 1/1000 on!

This is a fix. This is like those 7 fellas and the bloody ring year before last. They were rank outsiders.

If you want good quality films from torrent sites (kickass.com is one of my favs) add the name axxo into the search field. Axxo's films are all very good quality imo.

All well and good until you realise that quite a lot of the files with aXXo in the filename aren't actually released by aXXo.

newzbin + supernews = ~£8 per month and everything downloads at line rate from USENET, even 20GB Blu-ray rips.

I use sabnzbd running on a Linux server to watch my newzbin list and auto-download anything I select, which I can do from iPhone etc.

Shhh, we don't want everyone jumping ship (though I doubt the majority will as it's not free), keep p2p as the primary target.

[warning: this message contains an inordinate level of smugness]

Just downloaded the new episode of Breaking Bad. Took less than 3 mins.

Something to watch tonight when the plebs are glued to the soaps.

Though I could watch it at lunchtime seeing as I'm 'working from home'.

Torrenting is a fab when you are working away and there is not much in English on local TV.

Breaking bad on my list for tonight.
