The formaility of work attitude in Germany really hinders them, attention to detail so extreme they rarely over extend in creativity.

UK not very good but still less than Germany for both low and high earners.

As for contractors I was pre-IR35 so definitely less tax in the Uk in those days. DOn't know about now.

Top tax rate here is already 50% of earnings, VAT is at 20% and all the stealth taxes introduced by Labour are all still in place.

If you really think the UK is well placed to prosper in the global economy, you are thicker than Wilmslow's wanking arm.

No but I'd like to see the government come up with some kind of road map setting out a vision to re establish ourselves as world leaders in manufacturing industries.

Road maps sound too prescriptive. Governments rarely know what they are doing. Centralisation rarely works.

The best thing a government can do is get out of the way. If people have ideas - let them get on with it.
