The ability to inspire and encourage others. I realise that this also applies to Hitler.
An empathy for others and a willingness to experience their suffering in order to improve morale.
Talent also helps - Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Zhukov, Nelson, Julius Caesar, Blair....
