      As someone on Guido's blog pointed out, what they should have done is scour their safe for the most inflammatory scandal they had, kiddie fiddling MPs, coppers on the take, etc, and print the lot, so they'd go down like the Bismarck with all guns blazing.

          Obviously in principle that's true. But in practice an offer to resign, which is "refused", is simply a conventional show of (cough) sincerity combined with shared responsibility.

            Why go out with all guns blazing when you can come in that way. I predict the first edition of The Sun on Sunday will have some sensational stories just to hook the mugs back on the line.

            Question is, how long will Murdoch wait before daring to restart the sunday paper?
