As a cyclist and a driver, I find I am more aware of cyclists and so take more care. There are some truly dim arse drivers in the world though. Lack of indication, drive too fast, not paying attention, to close when over taking. It's the same when walking. Pedestrians always have right a of way. If one is crossing the road you stop, not beep and expect someone to run across.

I try to avoid the road when cycling these days preferring offroad. To many ******* who speed up towards the roundabout and then blame cyclists and their kids.

      Quite so.

As a car driver, you have a responsibility to be more tolerant and considerate of the fragile road users around you. Whether you feel it warranted or not.

I would agree with that ..... I wouldnt feel sorry for a wreckless driver ...

However as I mentioned, I feel sorry for the drivers who drive carefully and legally, yet someone runs out without looking or slams in to them, then for some stupid reason, it's the drivers fault, rather than the idiot who wasnt paying attention ....

Anyway I wasnt "trolling" or "joking" ....

As I said, many cyclists are irresponsible and cause the accidents. The driver always gets the blame. Which isnt fair, when a driver has a cyclist crash in to them or someone run in to the road without looking. They have to deal with the death the rest of their lives, they get ripped away from their family and thrown in prison.

So who cares about the cyclist, my sympathy is reserved for the driver .....
Top tip that may help you in life: The world isn't black and white, to lump cyclists into a one group and drivers into another is ridiculous.

How many cyclist have wiped out an entire family because they cycled for to long without a break? How many cyclists have had a few too many and killed an innocent pedestrian?

I'm not saying some cyclists don't do stupid things but what gives a driver carte blanche on the roads? If they hit someone it is mostly their fault as they should always drive in a manner where they can avoid a collision.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

The truck driver was absolutely distraught, according to eye witnesses. The police have not yet established whose fault, if anyone's, nor precisely what happened. I'm quite aware that many cyclists cycle incredibly stupidly. I'm also aware that many drivers just don't look.

I've temporarily deleted the posts you made that I've found most offensive, but I've also passed the buck on this one to other moderators, can probably be more subjective, to decide whether to overrule my action, and whether anything else needs to be done.

Generalisations and stereotypes are part of life ....

That's why I used the example of theives if you read it. Would you give a thief a hug and ask if they're a victim of modern society? Or would you simply sentence them to prison?

One thief may have stolen for perhaps even noble purposes. But society wouldnt differentiate that, all they see is a lousy thief.

Very true ... One of the reasons I believe in re-testing all road users ... People pick up lazy habits, whether its cycling through a light or not looking as you open your car door for instance .....

I didnt see any swearing in there ....

Is hurting peoples feelings now against the AUP, or is it just make it up as you go along or decide on which users you favour?

I didnt realise it was so henious to have a different viewpoint. Makes for quite a boring forum IMHO if everyone just agrees on everything.

It's interesting to see what your conservative views and strict morals entail you little sh1t.

NotAllThere, very sorry to hear your news. I've started to take my toddler out on the back of the bike and will continue to stick to canal sides and proper cycle paths.

                    WHS.

I take mine offroad and canals. To be fair though I've never been knocked off a bike or clipped and I've done some serious cycling. In addition, same with a car.

So as much as pure accidents happen, you need to be alert to everything. I've never understood the 'wearing headphones' while cycling (and for that matter) jogging. Nothing more annoying to cycle up behind a jogger, rung your bell, they don't hear you and then jump out of their skin as you go past them:

Cyclists wearing headphones plugged into a phone which they're using to text. What's that about?
