Take the train to Haarlem instead and eat at Lambermon's.

La Rive in the Amstel Hotel is quite contractorish, as is Yamazoto in the Okura.

Sorry, I don't really eat in cheap restaurants, certainly not in Amsterdam.

I know a couple of affordable places in Haarlem though. Specktakel is worthwhile.

Whatever you do, don't eat in the floating Chinese restaurant opposite the library. People at TomTom called it the 'Clostridium Palace'.

Going over there soon and wouldn't mind some recommendations both "contractor type" and "non contractor type" that anyone may have eaten at.
To get some real dutch food; hop on the train to Scheveningen (20-30 mins), plenty of resaurants on the beach.

I'm in Noordwijk aan Zee earlier in the week, so will try their seaside herring

Because they don't do real dutch food in Amsterdam?

Humphreys is very nice, and not too far from Centraal.
Oh, I’m sorry….I seem to be lost. I was looking for the sane side of town. I’d ask you for directions, but I have a feeling you’ve never been there and I’d be wasting my time.
