Don't take my word for it, take the tourists:

Edinburgh and Glasgow are the second and fifth most popular urban destinations in the UK, according to figures for tourist body Visit Britain.

For the benefit of the 'english'. The SNP are a centre/left party with an overall aim of an independant Scotland. I don't see the referendum being an immediate priority, but will come.

For the resident *******, like DimPrick etc, who will welcome our removal from the UK with our 'dwindling oil rigs', think of every pub in YOUR country and how many glasses of whisky they sell. Where the **** do you think that comes from (mainly) and where do you think the massive tax take from that would go ? How do your westminster chancellors tend to balance their budgets every year. A combination of oil (and assiciated petroleum products) and other energy, whisky and cigarettes. There's more to Scotland than dwindling oil rigs and even if there wasn't, it would still be more than enough. The Thatcherite 'revolution' in the 80's was just about fully funded by Scottish oil. Maybe you should remember that the next time you're fondly remembering her 'miracle'.

As they say in Glasgow, get that right up you.

Are there official figures whether Scotland is a net gain or loss to the economy? Obvious things like whisky aside, it's very rural which suggests high costs for public services, etc?

Does the data exist in a form that is actually useful?

Strangely enough, these figures do not exist. The Barnett formula would look at fiirst glance like Scotland gets more than it takes in taxation but that excludes business taxation, spirits taxation, oil taxation etc etc. You can't just make these things 'asides' because they all count. Taking whisky as an example, have you any idea how much of that stuff is produced and sold worldwide ? It's MASSIVE.

Taking into account the oil taxation and whisky as well as other Scottish business incomes, it contributes much more per capita than it receives. Fact.

We'll see. I hope you get the vote soon. Don't let the door smack you on the arse on your way to poverty.

Unfortunately, you come across like a bit of a bellend. A sensible Scotland would export you at the earliest convenience.
