Got my council tax bill yesterday. They have valued my flat in band D (around 80K) but its value is really in the £250-£300K bracket. It says on the bill that the valuation was done by Hector.
Is that a result or what?
You don't know about the new bypass they are building do you?

thats so when they issue a compulsory purchase order on you cos they need the land so they can spend our hard earned billions on another eyesore they only have to give you tuppence!
Hmmm. Yes seems to be a nominal valuation. If they re-valued everyone's property, some people's council tax would double! And I doubt that politicians of any hue would allow that - they're all too mindful of what happened to Thatcher after the poll tax. The art of taxation is to squeeze till the pips squeak, but not to crush the lemon completely (to coin a phrase).

You mean the ones where the plans have been on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of The Leopard’.
That Bypass?

As your council tax bill has nothing to do with your property but is raised according to the drop in pensions of civil servants I really can't see the point of this. I also can't help wondering how many people have actually complained about the banding and how much will be added on to said peoples' council tax to pay for the taking a publishing of photo's. Another stupid idea from the people who brought you Tony Blair

I think he is saying, and I agree: Your council tax bill is going up to fill the hole in the pensions for civil servants, this taking photos stuff is just smoke and mirrors to look like progress. Seems obvious to me.
You know there's the home 'makeover' TV programmes? The ones where Thingy Llewelyn Whatever Bowen Whatsit with the flashy sleeves does a makeover on peoples' properties?
I feel there may well be a market in doing 'makedowns' on peoples' properties.
A company that specialises in dumping rubbish (old refrigerators etc.) in peoples' gardens and trashing the turf. A company that has the technology to artificially create mouldy patches in kitchens and bathrooms. And transform a third bedroom into a flea pit of storage space.
A company that provides a household with a month's worth of washing up and dust and dirt and is expert at creating that 'slowly peeling off' wallpaper look.
A company that can disguise a spectacular view from a rear window with one that is appalling.....
