Somebody had the magician at a party recently. Now the wife wants him and something extra. Someone else has also booked him.

It's not about the kids. It's about the parents. I couldn't give two hoots on what people think.

When ours were that age I used to love being the entertainer but came unstuck one day when I filled the room with pink and blue balloons and divided the kids into girls and boys teams. the winner was team who stamped out all the balloons of their colour. the boys went mad and entered into the sprit tearing around bursting the balloons while the girls all screamed and cried at the noise. I would have happily handed over £200 at that point to stop them crying.

Daughter is 5 next month. The wife(who doesn't work but think's that money is something that the cash point fairy just conjours up) has booked the local church hall.

4 hours at £15 per hour. OK. Sorted with that.

And hired a bouncy castle. £60. Fine with that

And booked a children entertainer and magician. £200 for two hours. WTF! £100 PER HOUR!!

And paid caterers to do the food £120!!!! WTF £120 for the a childrens ******* party!

£440 for a four hour childrens party!!! WTF!!!!

Is this excessive? She thinks that's what it should cost!

It is rather excessive. You'd think she'd have gone to Iceland and spent £400 on cheap cocaine to finish you off double quick.

My wife doesnt seem to understand the concept of a budget. She thinks that the upper limit on a budget is the starting level.

As a regular lurker I have noted multiple occasions on which MF boasts about his enviable financial position. Thus this story complaining about his wifes excessive spending lacks verisimilitude. I think he is just using the story as a vehicle to inform us of how much money he is spending on his spawn.

What's the rate like? Can I choose who you use when exercising your right of substitution?

Daily rate is variable depending on client(s).

I don't use substitutes though; you just can't get the staff these days, I find.
