At the moment for my little niche the going rate seems to be £300-350, and the only stuff I have seen advertised is in out of the way locations i.e. a job came up in Yorkshire. A lot of stuff never ends up advertised though, and the company I am working through at the moment probably handle 40-50% of the work in that niche in the UK, so getting specifics of what might be out there is next to impossible.

When we moved in to our little flat I had had steady work for at least £450 for years, and after taking a few months off when my son was born I was back on the gravy train, but the arse really dropped out of the market in 2008 and I had six months on the bench before coming over here, not because the rate was good but because it was the only thing that came up in that 6 months.

That is the downside of niche skills compared to common or garden ones I suppose. The annoying thing is I *have* good common or garden skills lie Java, Oracle C on Unix and so on but agents often won't touch me because it's mostly been in conjunction with a niche product.

While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

There are cheap places to rent in Saff London. None of them up and coming though.

And you may not want your son to mix with children there even though you won't be on a council estate.

Yes, I lived in and around Croydon for a bit when I first moved to London.

Not somewhere I would want to raise children given the choice.

<cough> Morden </cough> seems to be ok in places. Though I don't live there myself and never have.

WHat is your niche pray tell Doodab? Remember a lot of us come across roles all the time. I do a couple of niche products. I;ve been looking for someone with Remedy and someone with IFS for ages so I could put in touch with some clients I didnt have time for.

Yes, that's quite close to where we are now. Still quite expensive though.

I will, at the moment I have to go to Putney or Kingston.

                    I thought you had debts.

Seriously you don't want your missus spending loads at a more expensive supermarket when you are trying to pay of debts.

Even my mates, one of whom lives in one of those big houses, go to Asda for branded goods. She wasn't happy when her OH told her to but she rather that then not have her holidays.

                      doodab -

The spending has to be curbed, get a set amount out each week and live to it. Dont use the cards.

As MF said - try and get the debt shifted to 0% asap.

Have you thought about the school option for your lad if you moved over to Germany ?
