Tax doesn't have to be taxing

Taxman raises penalty for late tax returns to £1,300 - Telegraph

£1,300 late filing penalty, up from £100.

The new penalties for filing a late tax return and for making a late payment apply from the next tax year beginning April 6.

    That's inflation for you!

There is no inflation. It's only fair.

Quick Google shows that HMRC reckoned about 900,000 were due to be fined £100: £90m.

Now that potentially inflates up to £1.2b (on the unlikely assumption that the same number of ppl are late).

      That's Numberwang.

Should help with the deficit. All things considered, I support the idea of taxing the stupid.

Has a nicer ring to it? Could be a new HMRC slogan:

              Read past the headline though.

The new penalties mean taxpayers who file their returns late will be charged £100 on day one and a daily penalty of £10 a day after three months. Further penalties will be incurred if the returns are still not filed at six months and a year later, with a maximum penalty of up to £1,300.
So you still have three months past your filing date before the charges start rattling up past £100.
"I hope Celtic realise that, if their team is good enough, they will win. If they're not good enough, they'll not win - and they can't look at anybody else, whether it is referees or any other influence." - Walter Smith

On them! On them! They fail!

                That's a relief, I'm already 2 months late
