I've got an iPod Touch, which does more or less what the iPhone does for a fraction of the price. Usually I can find an internet connection if I desperately need internet on a phone, and if I want a phone I've got a £20 Nokia that works amazingly well for £eck all. Apps are great.

Plus the oldest has a new iPhone but as she is the worst "fashion victim" I have known in my entire life I don't see the fact as a recommendation.Last edited by Wodewick; 14 March 2011, 22:35. Reason: Changed the iPhone model cos I am numpty enough not to know what one she has - its the Glass fornt&back one!Jim is a Jedi! - Dara

What this one: 20 best mobile phones in the world today | News | TechRadar UKOriginally posted by TimberWolf View PostI was looking at some in the shops the other day and I was surprised how tacky "the competition" looks. I think HTC Desire in particular looked flimsy, plasticy and shoddy. Expensive too.
The phone techraider said was the best of the bunch, the well made one with the solid aluminium chassis? I don't know what you think you were holding but it it wasn't a HTC.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

If it was £100 or so fair enough, but for £300+ I expected something better. Admittedly the one in the shop had been handled a bit and was a bit worse for wear. The Desire was one I'd been Amazoning as a possibility at a previous juncture, so that perhaps was another reason for my expectations being higher. It looked like tat, as did the rest in the shop. Owning a virgin model might be an altogether more rewarding experience, assuming it didn't fall apart.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostThere's no accounting for taste.Comment

Right as I have a Samsung Galaxy S and 3 other people I'm close to have a Blackberry, iPhone and HTC all I can say is go to a store i.e. Carphone Warehouse and have a play around to see which one suits your finger size, has a large enough screen and fits your pockets best. Also pick up the Carphone Warehouse booklet as it will have basic technical details about each phone. (BTW someone I work with also has a Google Nexus S.)
Once you have eliminated one or two of those due to the size come back and ask more questions. All the phones have their pluses and minuses. For example Blackberries are great if you know lots of other people with them and you like messaging. In terms of apps lots of apps are ported to Android and iPhone so unless you have to use iTunes you won't really have a problem finding something you want.
Oh and stay away from any phone with an MS OS for a while as they aren't really that flexible in terms of changing the view."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

Smart phones are only designed to last about 2 years and that includes the iPhone. Otherwise why would you have a reason to upgrade it?Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostIf it was £100 or so fair enough, but for £300+ I expected something better. There as your cheaper Nokia-type no-frills phones are more hard wearing."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

I still think android has serious flaws but it does for now. I'm thinking about going back to microsoft when they get the OS better which they will, eventually, and someone eventually writes an app for it. iPhone is just not for me. Dangleberry is just a non starter.Comment

Is there any news about the next iphone coming out in the next few months?
A friend of mine told me to wait as Apple would probably be releasing a new phone June/July time.Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.Comment
